Original artwork description:

A slower pace of life brought about by lockdown has opened up new ways of working, encouraging a development of practice that I just hadn't been able to find the time to explore in previous months.

This new series of paintings are built of delicate layers, each taking around 24 hours to complete to create a lace like texture. It is a visual commentary on how during lockdown we have found the delicacy and intimacy that built our previous lives. What made us who we thought we were, stripped back to reveal a more holistic reality.

For these pieces I took inspiration from the audio works of experimental musicians and sound artists, Slow Clinic and Parachute For Gordo. Their layered and textured instrumental work triggers my sound-colour synaesthesia greatly. From this I deconstructed and stripped back to the bare bones of their sound and the synaesthetic experience to rebuild delicate, organically structured artworks.

The title is a nod to a dear friend and poet who sadly passed away last year. She always saw the good, the natural and the sensuality in those around her. These artworks echo her sentiment.

Materials used:

watercolour, acrylic ink
