Painting inspired by Boudica (Victory), also called Boudicca, Boudiga or Boadicea, mythical warrior ruler regarded in English school books today as one of the heroines of the homeland and recognized as the first queen of England. She led the largest anti-Roman revolt, called the Boudicca revolt, an armed uprising of the British Celtic tribes of the Iceni and Trinovanti against the Roman Empire that occurred in the Roman province of Britain in AD 60-61. The events had such an impact on the Romans that no further attempts were made to conquer Britain for the next ten years.
