The Borrowdale Yews, Original Fine Art, Oil Painting, Tree Painting
An original oil painting reflecting my fascination with the gnarled and wind-blown ancient trees in an upland environment. These trees are all over 1500 years old and are celebrated in Wordsworth’s 1803 poem ‘Yew Trees’.
The Borrowdale Yews are a well-known grouping of ancient yews on the fellside near Seathwaite. The original four trees, immortalised by Wordsworth, are now down to three.
The video shows pages from my visual journals. These are sketched on location and form the basis of later paintings made in the studio and help to show my creative process.
The painting is unframed.
