Original artwork description:

Getting ready for the Master course I was studding a paper on a talk by Walter Benjamin’s called “Unpacking My Library”. He talks about different types book lovers! Or book collectors. On his final paragraph he gives full credit to the “bookworm”. The real collector of books!

“The collector as he ought to be- ownership is the most intimate
relationship that one can have to objects. Not that they come alive in him;
it is he who lives in them. So, I have erected one of his dwellings, with
books as the building stones, before you, and now he is going to
disappear inside, as is only fitting."

So, this piece is a tribute to the real lover of books “the bookworm”
I have written a little poem around Walter Benjamin’s words.

Oh, how I envy thee
Inside thy building of orderly books
Disappearing amid the leaves of wisdom
So comfortable, on thy throne of words
That feed the wandering mind

This is a old antique clock box that lends itself to a little story. It is solid and beautifully and I have kept all its original surface and colour. I engraved the roof above with the poem, so it belongs with it forever.

Materials used:

antique box, mixed media
