This painting is of one of my favourite beaches, Sandsend, near Whitby in North Yorkshire. It is a place loaded with memory for me and my family as we have spent a lot of happy times there. It is a beautiful place whatever the weather but I have tried to capture the brightness and colour of the beach bathed in sunlight. I love the shapes of the groynes and the outline of Sandsendness is the distance. When there, you feel the power and energy of the sea, eroding and changing the forms, thundering and powerful.
I have framed this painting myself, here in my studio, using a hand mitre saw. The frame is a simple white slip. It does the job very well I think but I am not a professional framer so it has a handmade finish. The painting is available unframed upon request if preferred.
