This is a historical painting depicting an imaginary battle scene. This battle was one of the most important and one of the largest battles in Lithuanian history at the time.
I designed a stylized postage stamp that has been issued in Lithuania to commemorate the 775th anniversary of this battle.
In addition, the painting has already been exhibited in several exhibitions and was used as an illustration in the Latvian historical magazine '''Ilustreta Vesture'', No. 121, Riga.
The Battle of Saule was fought on 22 September 1236, between the Livonian Brothers of the Sword and pagan troops of Samogitians and Semigallians. Between 48 and 60 knights were killed, including the Livonian Master, Volkwin. It was the earliest large-scale defeat suffered by the orders in the Baltic lands. The Sword-Brothers, the first Catholic military order established in the Baltic lands, was soundly defeated and its remnants accepted incorporation into the Teutonic Order in 1237. The battle inspired rebellions among the Curonians, Semigallians, Selonians, and Oeselians, tribes previously conquered by the Sword-Brothers.
P.S. The painting currently is framed, but it is quite difficult to send such a large painting to other countries. Therefore, the painting will be removed from the frames, and the canvas will be rolled into a tube. So I sell it unframed. In the photos, I have shown how the painting looks framed. I believe that framing companies in your country will certainly be able to reframe this painting with a beautiful frame.
