Artwork description:

The bandstand in the historic market town of Thame, in Oxfordshire, sits in a private gated garden, between the tudor almshouses, and the (still working) Forge. Thame is regularly seen in Midsomer Murders.

Timbered tudor buildings stand out well in linocut. The monochrome background makes the red of the Georgian letterbox standout. In the print and also in real life. So I tried to capture that with the limited colour palette.

This print was made on 3 lino plates.

It won 1st Prize in the 2022 Thame Through Time Art Competition.

Materials used:

Schminke Lightfast Water-based lino inks, on Zerkall smooth paper.
