Original artwork description:

“Terra Cognita. Desert Green” is crafted from khaki stoneware brushed with varying shades of green engobes. Its cracked, fluid-like surface evokes dried algae on a sandy sea floor.

High-fired at 1250°C, it is fully water-resistant and set on a base of metallic plastic. Made by hand with premium stoneware locally sourced around Barcelona, it is framed in a floating frame with a metal hook for wall display.

The Terra Cognita series is inspired by aerial views of remote landscapes, where quarries, deserts, and salt flats appear desolate yet captivating. This series does not create hierarchies but instead presents these environments side by side, exploring the complex relationship between humanity and nature.

Rendering these images in clay provides a tangible closeness to distant terrains, often inaccessible or restricted. Displayed within reach, these works evoke longing, nostalgia, and unease, quietly asserting, “I was here,” and inviting viewers to connect with the unknowable.

Materials used:

Ceramic: Stoneware, Glazes
