“They seem to float” was my first thought, when I saw the reference photo. I am just starting to appreciate birds more and more. These two swans especially have such clarity and a beautiful softness to them, which resonated deeply with me. My intention for the painting was to create form and texture using very light values whilst retaining the calming mood and atmosphere.
I used a limited palette consisting of Paynes Grey, Burnt Umber and a touch Raw Sienna.
