Oil painting on canvas 100cm x 100cm x 4cm. Edges painted dark grey.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the sky - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the surrealities and drama of tempestuous rising Cumulonimbus clouds, often referred to as Thunderheads when observed during storms - Dense, towering and vertical, formed by extreme upward storm winds.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over Anglesey, North Wales,
The sky's layers are developed by forming texture through layering and blending the oil paint, building depth and highlights.
