This is an infra-red colour photograph taken in the Tatacoa Desert in Colombia.
Conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada named it 'Valley of Sorrows', it is not just a desert, but a tropical dry forest. The name "Tatacoa" also given by the Spanish, refers to rattlesnakes.
It covers over 300 square km and is a strange place indeed. One of the best places in the world to view the night sky due to the atmosphere, there was a full moon when I was there so I could barely see any stars at all! In the mornings, before it became too hot (and hot it was) I would wonder around in awe and then forget my way back...
