Community spaces take all shapes. Swinton Golf & Country Club is an oasis of green albeit man-made and previously frequented by golfers. The areas of trees much loved by wildlife and doing some carbon offset.
Amongst the silver birch tree trunks is a beech, right at the back, it's copper leaves all shrivelled and barely there. We were also enjoying the sight of youngsters playing in the bunker sand. There own beach in the middle of the urban landscape.
The golf club was bought by members and run for a few years, but has now been sold to a developer. Many locals have used it during lock-down whether to swing a club, build sandcastles in the bunkers or fish in the ponds. Wildlife has been enjoying it too. Hopefully it will remain.
During lock-down I was part of a group of artists who set challenges either based on an artistic style, medium or subject. Klimt "Birch in a Forest" 1903 was the inspiration for the strong black, white and silver tones. As we were out for our lock-down exercise walk the strong shapes and patterns of the trees were a great image to capture. I've created a collection "Covid Creativity - Art from Lock-down".
Image 19 x 14 cm (7.5 x 5.5") is completed in acrylics on canvas paper. Used undiluted so there is strong mark making and textures. The frame is white with glass 33 x 28 x 2 cm (c.13 x 11")
