This modern, abstract etching is inspired by the fluidity of nature and expresses the energy and power of the natural world. The depth created by layered forms, instils a sense of passing through, reminiscent of moving through waves or trees and evokes a peaceful calm.
To create this etching, I have worked with a steel plate, which has a rich texture, creating a sense of depth in the printed image. At each stage of the design, the plate is dipped in acid, which 'burns' small pits in the surface of the steel, thus 'etching' the design into the steel plate.
To make each individual print, the plate is smeared with cyan ink, which is then gently rubbed and buffed according to where you would like the ink to remain. Damp Somerset printmaking paper is then laid on top of the plate, which is then passed through a traditional etching press (a bit like a mangel, if you can remember mangles!).
The three prints available for purchase are from an addition of only 25. The plate is inked and printed by hand for every print in the edition, which means that there are slight differences between each print. As a result this makes each print a one off original.
Each individual print is signed, dated and numbered, and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
This artwork will be carefully wrapped in tissue and shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube.
