Whatever country I visit, I love to check out city parks. And if the parks have a boating lake then I'm even happier. This painting came to me after regularly seeing the super-kitsch swan-shaped boats you see in some parks. I've spotted them everywhere from a trip to Rio, Brazil, a few years ago, to recently in Hastings, Sussex, the nearest seaside town to my home. I love the idea of companies creating huge plastic swan-shaped boats rather than just normal ones - an idea that is quite 'pop art' in itself.

For this canvas I chose to depict the boat against a fairly standard UK park setting, with a muddy bank, trees and grass, and a dark turquoise pond. I also decided to include a real swan at the last minute to contrast the natural with the manmade version.

The end result is a bold bright colourful piece that would brighten up any home.

It is painted on a stretched cotton canvas that is ready to hang, and signed on the back as pictured.
