The perch by the Esplanade, Cairns, Queensland, Australia was clearly a good bit of avian Real Estate. I had watched the single Swallow repeatedly darting out and back again feeding on insects. After some time a second Swallow buzzed the first who stood his ground each time
Fascinating behaviour to watch. The "attack" was accompanied by open bills.
The timing of this shot was perfect; the heads were on the same focal plane and both beaks were wide open. The choice of 1/500s allows for motion blur on the wings, showing how these delightful birds attain the shear speed they are known for
