This painting is inspired by the Russian artist Kasimir Malevich who developed and named his abstract paintings, Suprematism, using geometric lines, squares, circles and rectangles. This was his reaction against the realist works that were being created around 1913 in Russia. His theories on abstract art was one of the many new art movements surfacing in France, Spain, Italy and Germany from 1908 to the 1920's which inclluded Cubism, Futurism, Dada, DeStijl and Constructivism. I used "tropical colors" instead of the black and white or primary colors that were used at the time.
The painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the sides are painted. I used a matte varnish to protect the work. Ready to hang. The work is titled, signed and dated on the rear.
acrylic paint, gesso, matte medium, matte varnish
