I regularly visit my favorites spots along the California coast to study the changing light. I am inspired by the way light shapes the landscape.
This painting is about light - the intense light of the setting sun over the ocean, illuminating the purple clouds and highlighting them in many hues of red, pink and orange, all reflecting bellow in the shimmering water.
Backlit sailboats settle for the night, with one latecomer rushing from around the far end of the cliffs eager to shelter in a safe harbor.

Materials:
Oil on oil-primed stretched slightly textured, organic look natural linen canvas. Painting surface is protected with a coat of Gamvar varnish. Unframed, wired and ready to hang. Images showing the painting framed are for presentation purposes only. Frames are not included.
