When I painted "Sunset Over New York", my intention was to capture the city’s energy and atmosphere at the moment when day fades into night. I wanted to express the sense of movement, light, and reflections that shape its unique rhythm.
In the upper part of the painting, I used shades of pink and white circular forms to convey the warmth of a sky illuminated by the setting sun. My aim was to create the impression of light filtering through a hazy glow, much like the shimmering reflections above the city. The central area is dominated by vertical structures in shades of orange, blue, green, and black—I wanted to evoke the towering silhouettes of Manhattan’s skyscrapers. Using textured brushstrokes and paint scraping techniques, I sought to bring the city’s constant transformation and pulsating energy to life.
The lower part of the painting represents the city’s reflection in the water. Here, I chose cooler tones of blue, green, and purple, accented with hints of pink and yellow, to recreate the gentle flickering of lights across the river’s surface. My intention was for the reflections to appear fluid and slightly blurred, mirroring the ever-shifting lights in the water.
With this painting, I wanted not only to depict New York at sunset but also to convey its movement, luminosity, and rhythm—to allow the viewer to feel the city’s atmosphere through colors and shapes, just as I experienced it while creating this piece.
