Inspiration
Captivated by the drama of a sunrise at sea, South Devon and North Cornwall’s stunning coastline is the inspiration behind Sunrise Waves, a large original oil painting. This work features deep-blue and teal-green waves cresting against a pale cerulean sky that captures dawn’s ethereal beauty. The light from the early morning the sun gives the waves a turquoise hue that is contrasted by the colour of the deep shadows of marine and phthalo blue along with touches of purple and paynes grey. Sea foam rises up under the waves in the foreground, adding a dynamic and captivating sense of life to this large original oil painting.

Medium
I’ve always been fascinated by the versatility of oil paints. As an artist, I can create layers of transparent hues, building multiple textures on the same canvas. I can also take a more expressive approach, scratching and scraping into the paint to reveal previously applied colours. The textures and luminosity available to me when painting with oils makes it an incredibly rewarding experience.

These qualities of oil paints make them perfect for achieving a variety of effects, from soft, delicate brushstrokes to intense, powerful images.

Not only do oil paints give me creative freedom, but they also help me to get the results I’m looking for. They have excellent adhesion and durability. Once I’ve finished my painting, I can rest assured that my artwork will remain resilient and vibrant for years to come.

Personally, I find that working in oils is the ultimate art experience. It allows me to create a wide range of effects, from subtle layers to bold strokes, and it also provides me with the necessary tools to bring my artwork to life. For me it is a timeless medium.

Background
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist.

In conclusion, I am a member of the Devon Artist Network and a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
