This painting explores a sunrise seen from a field I go to do some 'En plein-air' painting and drawing through the use of a tray, collected water and soil/ rock pigments.
The field I was working in overlooks Taunton and in the distance you can see the Wellington monument. The painting was created whilst looking through a gap in the trees, recording the rising Sun as I began traversing the sky back in June 2017. The trees were swaying in the morning breeze and it was a excellent moment capturing this scene as it unfolded and being captured using some of the soil I was working on, as well as using some of the rock pigments I have collected from my travels around Somerset.
