This is an oil painting of a lovely straight-pined wood in Gower, in the valley of Ilston Cwm, which is a inspiration for much of my landscape work. Locals often call this wood Cannisland Woods.
The colours produced throughout the year in this wood illuminated by the changing light of time, season and weather is quite astounding. Even on a dank, grey wet day there are numerous rich colours, purple pinks, coppers, lead jades among many others. These pines are wrapped in climbing ivy which shines like a precious blue in the sun light.
The pine needles also carpet the floor of the wood and make in eerily quiet which adds to it's rainbowed, magical mystic.
