Original artwork description:

Yellow and gold sunflowers burst onto the canvas in this contemporary still life painting. It is heavily textured, and the texture was created by adding pumice from lava rock to the oil paints. In creating this art I wish to share the peaceful, joyous mood that I feel in contemplating beauty. The vase is painted in vivid hues of red and rust colors that create a contrast to the soft background of blue, grey and brown.
I am pleased to note that Michael Kaysen, juror, selected this painting for the Artistic License exhibit at Studio 659 in Indiana. He is a museum specialist at the Art Institute of Chicago.
