Original artwork description:

I did not know at the time of creating this painting that sunflowers hold a special place in Ukrainian culture.
I then found out the sunflower is also believed to be a symbol of good luck and hope in Ukraine.
When I had just finished this painting I placed it in my studio shop front window.
A lady walked by smiled broadly and waved to me enjoying seeing the painting.
It then occurred to me the colours in this painting represent the blue and the yellow of Ukraine's flag.
I felt proud that I had helped bring some hope and light with this painting.
I already loved sunflowers hence why I wished to paint them. Vincent Van Gogh made them so very famous with his paintings. They are a timeless subject.
I have witnessed from the wave and smile from a stranger passing my studio shop window that they do really offer hope.
For a painting to be able to communicate something bigger than you set out to achieve I found most rewarding.
