My first time painting in the desert, this is Joshua Tree, about an hour out from Palm Springs, CA. The sun was heading down as the shadows drew long. A warmish day went to quite chill, and the planets in the sky were coming out as I finished up. I focused on the contrast between the close rock formations and the distant mountains with yellow sand in between. I couldn't stop painting for hours! The coyotes were yipping as I finished up. The painting has tiny flecks of sand embedded in its surface, because that's the desert.
