Original artwork description:

Sun kissed flower meadow
Heatwave time,
Midsummer haze,
Dashes of bright yellow daisies,
Purple knapweed and pink campion,
Soaking up the last rays of sunshine.

Words and memories of past summers in the North Dorset nature reserve.
Original impressionist watercolour on bockingford cold pressed 300gsm 140lb. I used a wet on wet technique for the background shades and then I painted a horizontal line in the background. I let it feather up while the paper is wet to give a ethereal effect of a hedge line in the heat haze. I used my sable hair brush and Japanese mop squirrel hair brush for the detail of the flower meadow. Dabbing, pressing and drawing up the paint for the stems while the paper is still wet.
My inspiration for this scene is a very quiet area of North Dorset nestled in the chalk valley.

Materials used:

Cold pressed bockingford watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb, Windsor and Newton watercolours, sable hair brush, Japanese mop squirrel hair brush,
