The day I painted this little plein air painting is still very clear in my mind. This was my third painting for the day. I was both exhausted and exhilarated. The sun was setting fast, glazing on the tippy tops of the lavender in every direction. My paints were down to their last dregs and drying quickly due to the hot summer day. The sun was straight in my eyes…I could barely see what I was doing. I rode the high of the day and devoured every tiny bit of enjoyment it left, before the sun finally dipped just below the hills.
You know how sun spot and flares you see after looking toward the sun? When I paint facing the sun (do not try this at home), those spots and flares dance in my vision for quite some time. I’ve come to associate this sensation with painting, which to me, equals joy…and light…and peace…and a day’s hard work.
After two years of hoarding this painting for myself (the others from that day have found new homes), I am offering it for sale, in the hopes that it brings its new owners that same sense of perfection I enjoyed the day I painted snufflers and lavender. ~Tali
