Original artwork description:

Summer Soul is a large exuberant explosion of a painting about summer and swallows and nature and poppies. It shows a view through a meadow of wildflowers towards low hills, trees and countryside. Three swallows are flying and looping over the flowers and crops intent on catching insects. There is a beautiful melancholy to August in England as it is when the swallows are preparing to leave us and fly south. These swallows are not fully formed as they reflect, for me, the soul of summer and so are wispy and too fast to focus on easily. There are veils of transparent colour which adds to the feeling of energy that you see in landscapes in the summer. This painting was inspired after a walk near Hadlow Down in Sussex where there is a small pocket of farmland that still feels quite ancient and is relatively unspoilt (park at post code TN224JF and go northwards). Dedicated to all farmers who should be thanked more often for what they do for us all. It is 36x48x1.5 inches on wide edge canvas with white edges and is ready to hang

Materials used:

oil on canvas
