Original artwork description:

Each of these works was painted en plein air, directly in nature, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the light and colors of the scene. I started by sketching out the basic composition and blocking in the major areas of light and shadow. Working with oil paints allowed me to build up rich textures and create layers of color, using a palette knife and loose brushstrokes to capture the immediacy and vibrancy of the natural environment.

In "Summer Shade," I embraced the complexity of the dappled light filtering through the trees. I worked with a range of greens, yellows, and cool shadows, using quick strokes to reflect the movement of light and wind through the leaves. The tree trunks serve as strong anchors in the composition, grounding the scene while the foliage creates a sense of natural fluidity.

This painting was a dialogue between observation and artistic interpretation, balancing detailed realism with expressive, gestural mark-making.

Materials used:

oil on canvas
