The Sugarloaf mountain in County Wicklow is one of my favourite subjects.
I grow up in it’s shadow and as a child I was told it is a dormant volcano, which of course made it the most interesting and scary thing possible and my eyes were always drawn to it – awaiting the day when it would start smoking again and erupt!
I am still drawn to it and still I always look out for it’s silhouette on the skyline, I love it’s shape and dominance of it’s surroundings.
At the moment I love the contrast of colours on it’s slopes – the bracken and dried golden grasses against the remaining lush greens and the beautiful vivid blue sky tinged with pink as dusk falls, a perfect day to paint!
Framed as shown and the painting is 70 x 50 x 2 cm unframed and is 80 x 60 x 4 cm framed
