I painted this still life last summer in the midst of the July heat. Flowers are painted with watercolors on 100% cotton paper. I wanted to add some golden background to keep the composition. I used gold leaves (imitation) for greater effect. I like how gold emphasized delicate peony and poppies.
This work is filled with light in the literal and figurative sense.


Gold leaves are covered with colorless varnish to protect metal from environmental exposure.

Arches cold press paper, 300 gsm; watercolour, acrylic ink, golden leaves (imitation)
