Within The Yorkshire Dales is the world famous and iconic limestone cliffs of Malham Cove in Malhamdale. Water has shaped this land for millennia - first came the retreating glaciers gouging out great swathes of earth as they retreated (creating many of the 'scooped out' shapes of each Dale), followed by meltwaters creating great swathes through the landscape and here, at Malham in 'soft' limestone country, the water too has played its part.
Once, a torrent of water poured over the lip of the cove but having permeated through the soft limestone rock over time, now appears at the base of the cove instead.
It is a dramatic amphitheatre of rock 260 feet high yet man has tamed and occupied the land for centuries. Today the ancient walls of limestone separate and section the land for sheep and cattle grazing creating the rich meadow greens which are seen in this expressive mixed media painting.
Started on site I later completed it in the studio combining Derwent Inktense media with Gouache and soft pastel.
When buying this painting it will be dispatched carefully packaged in a large thick cardboard box with the artwork generously mounted (3 inch surrounding the artwork at least) and cellophane wrapped with a back board secured behind the artwork that is the full size of the mount.
The original mounted artwork will then be placed between sheets of thick cardboard. Further cushioning with bubble wrap will be included to the sides of the artwork in the box to protect it.
I will sent via a tracked courier, insured to the value of the artwork.
