My new obsession is painting on gold leaf! I chose this woman because she perfectly embodied 'Summer' in her coloring, her careless sexiness, her confidence, her grace in her natural state of nudity, enjoying long summer days. It was so much fun to begin this journey of combining oil painting and gold leaf - I learned a lot! For instance- never paint directly on top of the gold leaf! Luckily I did a few trial runs before attempting this painting. The gold leaf is applied directly to the surface very delicately surrounding her. Then I used several sheer applications of oils to add texture and color to the gold leaf, using turpentine to give it a watery, patina'd expression.
