Sublime Peaks II is part of a collection of 3 Etchings all depicting waves.
Out in the most remote parts of our Oceans weird and wonderful things happen to this vast expanse of water. Storms and currently whip up wild and dangerous seas. Something only the bravest of us ever get to witness and in most cases, non of us.
Im fascinated by the monolithic forms that are in one second created and then the next destructed. Their collisions lasting only seconds and these chance forces being a secret lost to our seas.
Here I try to bring a snippet of what they might be over there in the Ocean, above the fishes and below the stars.
This Etching is a very limited edition, mainly due to the image only retaining its self in the copper surface for a short number of prints before it starts to break down and destruct itself.
Much like my waves they are constructed and destructed however, the time in-between being much, much longer than just a couple of seconds. A great deal of time and patience goes into making these Etchings which is what adds to their preciousness.
Etchings are distinct from any other image making process with something very unique and special about their appearance.
This Etching is entirely made from an acquainted plate using both the dipping process of biting and also spit-biting. Spit-biting is where you paint the acid onto the surface of the plate to etching soft, graduating or painterly tones. Note the areas where the tone shifts gently from one to the other. This is spit-biting.
For the sake of the image I personally prefer to edition, sign and title my prints on the back however, if you'd prefer it signed on the back please let me know in advance of dispatch.
If you have any questions about how this print is made, please feel free to ask away.
