The rose window of Strasbourg Cathedral is not only stunning but also unusual in its design. Created by Erwin von Steinbach this circular window demands attention and constitutes the central point of the cathedral's façade. Measuring 15 metres in diameter it is unique of its kind because, contrary to the Gothic tradition of being composed of saints, it instead features ears of wheat, symbolising the commercial power of the city in the Middle Ages.
