The canvas is now torn apart by one or more "lashes" that instead of indicating destruction are rather possible openings to the other place, to a third dimension beyond the limits imposed by the flatness of the painting. Lost all figurative function, the painting becomes a monochromatic surface containing a breach, a passage to a parallel universe, an alternative mental space.
