In the same way that tree trunks are often not brown but green or grey, the sea is not always blue but also green or, indeed, grey. But it would take a brave, or very famous, artist to paint a picture of a totally grey sea. It is not the responsibility of an artist, certainly not an abstract artist, to paint what he sees, quite the opposite in fact. Attention grabbing artists would paint the sea in orange or purple, as, indeed, this artist has done in the past. For this painting, however, the artist has chosen the middle path. As colors, blue and grey go very well together. And the semi-abstract effect of the waves creates a dramatic effect (hopefully!)
