This series was initially inspired with the desire to capture some of the drama of a set of storm clouds passing along the estuary at a time I was sitting having a coffee on what was otherwise a beautiful summer afternoon. Making some quick sketches and then developing the series in the studio - the paintings have developed into X2 triptychs, as well as X4 small paintings. As with other work these paintings have been built up in layers 'wet on wet' and then finished with a bold impasto style that reflects my desire to connect with the painting and the environment. This particular triptych here of large paintings where all painted together... from initial thin washes of paint to a build up of expressive impasto oil.
These paintings are all complete with handmade, and hand-painted blue-grey frames - leading the eye into the work. Signed by me on the front - and all labelled on the reverse these are ready to hang.
