‘Stop the Clocks’ was inspired by the drive around the headland from Saunton to Croyde Bay, North Devon.
I wanted to capture that feeling of excitement when you first see that view; what are the waves doing? How many people are surfing? In this painting I wanted to capture Croyde at its most glorious – beautiful, clean waves and not a soul in the water.
It’s a mixed media piece created from texture paste, acrylic and acrylic ink undercoats, then finished with collage layers and oils. I worked mainly with a palette knife and a fan brush, and created the spray by flicking and throwing the paint.
Stop the Clocks
The end of your journey
You turn the last corner
Glassy wave face
Not a soul in the water
A perfect moment
Time for time to stand still
Stop the clocks
Feel your heart swell
