“Still Rainin’, Still Dreamin’ ” is an acrylic on canvas painting 72cmsW x102cmsH x3.5cmsD framed in solid pine wood. The painting continues the series of land, sea and sky. It takes its name from a Jimi Hendrix composition of the same name. The painting is inspired by the early morning light and the dramatic colour seen in the coastal skies where I live. This particular painting is based on a view of a wet beach. It’s raining and the sands have already been wetted by the tide. Please see the photographs that document this inspirational setting. This painting intends to capture the atmosphere of a rainy morning just as dawn is breaking. The clouds are beginning to lift and light is breaking through. Shafts of light cascade onto the wet beach reflecting the glowing light. This isn’t a literal painting. It doesn’t attempt to replicate a ‘scene’, but it does try to capture the atmosphere of an open coastal landscape. I look to artists such as Barbara Rae, Turner, the Fauvists and Monet and the Post-Impressionists for inspiration. The work is shipped in a heavy duty card crate.
