This colorful shiny still life with watermelon I've made in sunny Turkey. I was totally inspired by the big dish with traditional Turkish pattern with stylized blue tulips and stems. The saturated red color of watermelon pieces perfectly harmonizes with an intensive blue floral painting of the plate. This combination reminds me the paintings of Matisse, whose famous still lifes are full of vivid color energy. I purposely used a loose, free alla prima technique to express a vibrancy of sunlight on the objects, feeling of the warm summer day and dazzling colors of the South.
