Original artwork description:

A lively still life painting depicting two 17th Century drinking vessels against a vivacious and cheery orange and red ground. I love old ceramic objects, particularly functional ones such as drinking cups and pitchers ... they seem to have a story of their own to tell! I have placed them against such a striking background to enhance the richness of the their dark, glossy, bulbous surfaces. In this work, I began with a dark yellow ground, upon which I built up hues of reddish-orange for the table and background, whilst layering many glazes of green and blue to render the vessels themselves, finally adding opaque white highlights at the end.
