This piece was done with acrylic and mixed media on heavy paper. It is pieced, folded, collaged and torn. It is a fun funky piece with a whimsical urban edge. This was a fun piece to do. It is one of my favorites.
Piece is signed ‘KATCHI’, this is a nickname which derives from an old Louisiana Indian term for ‘loving touch’. I started signing my more playful pieces this way. It is signed ‘Kat Crosby’ on the back along with the title and date created.
It is signed on the front and back along with the title and date created.
I name my pieces by what occurred while painting the piece. What moved me, what struggles had to be overcome, my mood, my train of thought, what the piece reminded me of, sometimes a song that was on and the beat moved me or the lyrics influenced me in some way. Some pieces are named clearly with a bit of humor. I never intentionally start out a painting saying “I’m going to do this, or I’m going to do that”. All of my pieces morph into something that is totally surprising and unexpected.
Original abstract mixed media painting. I incorporate a number of mediums into all of my abstract mixed media works. I am proud to say that my original paintings hang in the collections of both new and seasoned art collectors alike. Each collector is as important to me as the next and I cherish the ability to do what I love for a living because of all of those who support my art.
