Expressive oil painting in semi-abstract style.

This piece was inspired by a distant memory of once familiar mossy stone steps in Derbyshire. The image and atmosphere returns to me when I encounter similar landscapes, and I am often surprised by the intensity with which a place, smell or sound, can be evoked.

Several layers of oil paint have been built up using both palette knife and brushwork, creating depth, atmosphere and a sense of place.

Painted with Michael Harding Artist Oil Colours, on canvas board.
