This was the First painting in a series made for a Masters Degree final Project. The work is Acrylic on Canvas and sets out to explore how latent visual reference can coexist with contemporary visual experience. The image is a montage of such elements Punch and Judy (Casper) theatre tent, contemporary silhouette of Lowery Mill Pendlebury as a small child this was know as Newton Mill, L.S. Lowery lived a few doors west of this when I was child staying at my grandmas house on Station Road. The Railed of area was a playground then and was my first senses of genuine freedom and fear, theatre and history.
The semiotics or associations that permeate to the present from the past are examined here in how we interpret or decode the world around us.
The painting an attempt to make a space that can be decoded or recoded and to that extent is a stand alone image to be completed by the view, through their own latent paradigm of visual reference and content relating to content form and process in the work. This has been the most well received of the series and was selected for the prestigious Master and Others show at the Atkinson Gallery Millfied Somerset, which aims to show case the best of the nations Masters Degree work for that year, 2017
