Recently, I drove to St Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY to visit my Grandfather, who has rested there for over 26 years.

The fresh mounts of dirt of “new residents” hit me hard, as there was more than three dozen that I could noticeably view.

I came home and painted this piece and kept thinking of the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect.”
