Impressionist oil painting of a high tide on a late afternoon.
I lived for a time on the small island of Hibre, when I was Artist in Residence at the Wirral Country Park. At this time of the day the high tide cuts off this island completely from visitors, the view I have painted is from Hilbre Island looking out towards West Kirby.
It is towards the end of the day and the sunset has only just begun, the sun is casting a brilliant light right across the water, which has created patterns of colours in the incoming tide.
This atmospheric painting has been layered over time with pallet knife and brush and is painted around the side so no frame is needed.
