624-Start All Over Again (La Fin des Pins)
This sequel to my painting 'Christmas Tree Shopping' is a poignant reminder of the consumerism around Christmas and the aftermath. The Christmas trees are being discarded, all philanthropically assisted by the retail trade, which attracts people back into stores for yet more temporal purchases. The heavy perspective of the composition of a shopping mall leads to banner-sized arrows to the redundant Santa, now begging, and the security force. The lighting of the shops contrasting strongly with the sombre skipfull of trees. Yet a robin finds a place to stake his territory.
