Original artwork description:

For this piece I created my version of Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night on watercolour paper using swirling lines in bright blues, red, green, yellow, and gold leaf.

I then cut each butterfly and had to number them all to keep them in order!
Each of the three dimensional butterflies is punch-cut and arranged into the picture in the centre of the frame. They are attached to heavy white card within a white glazed (perspex) deep box frame

The result is a vibrant and colourful modern relief design, paying homage to Van Gogh, revealing individual butterflies on closer inspection, with different shadows cast from the up-turned wings depending on the direction of the light.
