Artwork description:

A murmuration of starlings is an amazing spectacle but despite the incredible size of the flocks, they are but a fraction of what they used to be. The population has fallen by 70%. They are on the critical list of birds most at risk.

This image was achieved by working on three large copper plates of equal size. This enabled me to build up the dense mark making to interpret a starling murmuration.

The method used is etching on three copper plates with soft ground.

Materials used:

oil-based printing ink and Somerset Satin paper
