The title "Starboard Sea" of this impressionist painting, gives a point of reference to the viewer of the open sea while sailing on a beam reach. The love of sailing offshore inspires me to capture the dynamic movements of the ocean. Similar to staring at a camp fire, the rise, fall, crests and troughs of the ocean mesmerize me. The constant changing sea captures and holds my attention. For me, the best way to visually pass this concept to the viewer is with sharp color against color strokes. This technique gives the painting the energetic movement compelling the eye to dance across the painting as it would while gazing across an open sea.
